In April we were joined at The Library by speaker, Emily Groves, MD of Indigo Swan.

Emily focused on leadership and how important it was to be a good leader in terms of creating a successful business.  She talked about her own experience of building the energy consultancy business, Indigo Swan where she employs 15 people (or ‘Swans’ as they are known!) and has developed a working ethos that focuses on the ‘human, the positive & the efficient’.  She has also developed an open culture whereby employees are encouraged to share mistakes they have made to improve their offering – the senior management team lead by example and often share examples of where they feel they could have performed better to turn the experience into a positive one!

As MD , Emily’s routine activities include strategic direction, finance management and managing key relationships, but ultimately, as a good leader, it is her responsibility to ensure all the ‘Swan’s feel trusted and empowered to represent the energy industry in the very best way possible, helping to explore client needs and finding innovative ways for Indigo Swan to help them.

And it works . . . because last year, the organisation won the ‘Consultancy of the Year’ trophy at the TELCA energy industry awards and is the ‘UK’s Energy Service Firm of the Year’.  Not only that, in 2015, Emily was the IoD’s ‘Young Director of the Year for the East of England’.
