We kicked off 2016 with our annual overview of the financial markets by NBWN member, Kay Burt of Kay Burt Investments. Kay started life as a stockbroker, spent time at Norwich Union (now Aviva) and has run her own business for the past eight years.

Kay first reflected on what happened in 2015 when newspaper columns were dominated by the debate about when various Central Banks would increase or decrease their interest rates. Other key themes were the London property price bubble, the plunging price of oil and emerging market equities.

Looking forward to 2016, Kay predicts that global investment markets are likely to remain volatile, but a lot depends on what happens in the US and in China, which really control what happens around the globe. For us in the UK, the economy is expected to grow, but the main risk is political i.e. will we or won’t we stay in Europe. Watch this space!
