In July, our speaker, The Very Revd Jane Hedges gave us a snapshot of a week in the life of a Dean from the beautiful surroundings of the Hostry and cathedral.

No day is the same and as well as overseeing the life of the Cathedral, chairing the Chapter, and being a member of the Bishop’s Senior Staff Team, Jane is very much involved with engaging with the local community and businesses.

As well as hearing about her day to day responsibilities, she provided a fascinating insight into her background and how she worked her way to become the first woman Dean of Norwich in 2014.  She was ordained Deaconess in 1980, Deacon in 1987 and Priest in 1994.  She was the first woman to be appointed a Residentiary Canon in the Church of England, serving as Canon Pastor at Portsmouth Cathedral.  In 2006 she became the first woman Canon at Westminster Abbey before coming to Norwich.
