At November’s lunch, speaker Nigel Pickover, Editor in Chief of the Eastern Daily Press provided an update on how the paper – and it’s sister publications are responding to the way we want to see local news reported and indeed how we choose to read and interact with it.

We heard about the impact that regional press can make, not only to those in the local community but also on a national basis.  A great example from Nigel was that 12 months on from the 2013/14 EDP Norfolk & Lowestoft Flood Appeal which followed the biggest tidal surge in 60 years, the local press appeal left a legacy which went beyond the crisis itself and prompted national debate including PM David Cameron, around the future of flood defences in Britain.  The appeal raised over £350,000 to support local people in need.

The Hostry served as a great venue yet again and we had record numbers of members and guests in attendance this year!
